My Fashion Blog
Petite Fleur Noir
Hi Fashionistas!
Welcome to my blog!! I am a Second Life Resident and I live and work in the UK.
I love fashion in real life and in Second Life and it seemed natural to want to blog about the best fashion available in-world and on the
marketplace.
When did clothing become fashion? Good question!!
In the beginning human beings first clothed themselves to protect against the elements! Clothing was a practical solution against wind, rain, sun and cold.
Fashion in its’ truest sense can be traced back to the time of the Egyptians when the elite adorned themselves with beautiful fabrics, styled their hair and adorned their bodies with jewels and make-up.
Fashion is a fundamental and ever present element of civilised society indeed fashion as we know it today can in no small way be attributed to the ill-fated Marie Antoinette and her court at Versailles. It was an era of excess in fashion the dress of the time being at once quite beautiful but horribly impractical with some dresses weighing up to several kilos in weight. This was the golden era of fashion in France and one of its most significant
successes as it was from this point that fashion ceases to be functional and an indication social class.
Fashion is reactive- It is an art form which is heavily influenced by the social, religious, sexual, political and economic climate of the time. There have been many significant changes in the interpretation and application of fashion ideals in the two millennia since the Egyptian civilisation. War, economic crisis- austerity, prosperity, religious reform and the liberation of women have all been significant in shaping how we in the 21st century perceive, idealise and conceptualise fashion.
In the western world we have come to accept fashion as an essential part of our personal freedom in the expression of self! It is a statement of who we are as individuals an external extension of our personality. It is something to be enjoyed by all!
It is significant to note that in some areas of the world fashion freedom does not exist as we enjoy it in western society, self-expression still exists to a
certain extent but economic and religious constraints shape its interpretation and application in daily life.
